Root Collar Excavation

Short of lifting the tree by transplanting, a root collar excavation is the only choice to treat a tree with very deep roots.

Our expert team removes the surrounding soil as the first step of our root collar excavation process. The dirt is removed just broad enough to expose the root flare and makes an angled slope keeping the hole from filling back up.

AB Tree Doctor specialists use mostly air tools during this process to prevent damage to the root system. We then load the excavation with pea gravel to keep the trunk as dry as possible. Sand and wood chips also provide excellent aeration but can sometimes hold too much condensation, which can harm the entire root excavation process.
